Wow that went fast! First I think I have all the time in the world and then all of a sudden it disappears! I had wanted to do an in depth Thankful Thursday for every thoughtful Thursday in November, but obviously that didn't get accomplished! So here's a round up of what I am truly Thankful For:
A Healthy Child : We had a friend just lose their precious daughter to a heart condition, she was only a year old, I can't imagine that pain. I am SO Thankful that my son is healthy!
An Amazing Husband: My husband is my best friend and the most amazing father I know. Without him I am pretty certain I would not have survived our very fussy, stubborn, opinionated child thus far. He has been a life saver and tremendous support for all my endeavours.
My Senses: To me they are what bring this world alive. From being able to smell the fresh baked bread in the oven or apple butter cooking on the stove. To seeing all the beauty this world holds and also being able to use my sight to read and escape into my imagination. Touch, from the hold of a hand and kisses on the cheek to warnings of temperature and different textures, we would so much less human without touch. I could go on, but I am so Thankful for these things that bring our world alive!
A Perfect Location: I am blessed beyond measure in where I live. The great Northwest has so much to offer! I love that we have all four seasons in all their splendor. And I also love that I live in the country, on a farm. I am not the type that can be cooped up in the city, I need space, fresh air, green fields, trees aplenty and no nosey neighbors!
These are just a few personal things I am Thankful for. I Love spending a little time in November reminding myself how lucky and blessed I am in this life, and how much I have to be Thankful for.
What are you Thankful for?

FML...Really?
I am not a very new technology savy person. In fact even getting this blog up and running was a feat in it's self. (Bear with me if you notice some things are kind of a muck!) With that being said I don't really dial into much text lingo, the shortening of words. I mean really, you don't have the time to write out words, where has personal connection gone! But there is one abbreviation that I have homed into lately: FML. Also known as F@#! My Life, appears almost weekly in facebook status updates. I am really curious what could possibly be so bad for that expression to be necessary? I feel status updates have become the whining ground for everyone's "disastrous" problems.
Since November is host to Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays and the one I feel is the most important and most overlooked, I challenged my facebook friends to post something they are Thankful for each day. Maybe that can get the FMLs off and some more positive unselfish thoughts going. If you have access to facebook I am guessing compared to many parts of the world you are pretty well off. The other day in messing around during my cyber time I ran across The Water Project (http://water.org/, also please watch this youtube video below, it is really worth the 9 minutes!) It's something I don't think we as Americans take any time to think about; the fact that 1 in 8 people around the world don't have access to clean, safe drinking water. That is an astounding number to me and I had definitely, before learning this, completely taken it for granted that I could just turn on my faucet and have clean water that was acceptable to drink. Even indoor plumbing, I can't imagine spending hours every day traveling to get water. And not even safe water!
To me water is the bringer and sustainer of life. I can't even imagine not having access to water. This makes even everyone else's smallest problems seem so minuscule in comparison. So today, I am Thankful for water. And the next time you take a drink or turn on your faucet think of what an incredible blessing that truly is!

{Wordless Wednesday}
I saw an awesome idea on another blog a while ago and thought I would give it a try. Wordless Wednesday, an easy post to do that captures a moment in a picture. Because every one is busy it's nice to just take a minute and savor a moment of life. Since we just celebrated Halloween I thought this would be a perfect one to start with.

Adventures in Cloth Diapering......
......Making the Switch
"Wait a minute, you CLOTH diaper?"
"Yes, I DO and I Love it!"
"Wow, you are really brave!"
I think the most important thing about parenting is that you find what works for you and your family. That's part of becoming a family, making your own decisions based on what's best for your situation. As parents we all want what is best for our kids, but I believe that looks different for everyone. I am the type of person that once I get excited about something, or interested in something I dig deep and research and explore all the options. When we found out we were pregnant, I just knew I wanted to cloth diaper. I didn't know anyone who was cloth diapering, or even have some big reason to do it, I just knew that's what I wanted! So started 9 months of frantic and in depth research! My poor husband, always put on a brave face trying to act interested in my newest discovery, which was a every day occurrence for a while. Once I dove head first into this amazing world I was reassured a thousand times over on my decision!
1. Cost
In my first days of pregnancy excitement I stumbled across a Baby Cost Calculator (check this one out: http://www.babycenter.com/baby-cost-calculator) Wow! Maybe everyone else is more in tune with how much a baby costs, but I wasn't totally prepared. We had been saving up some money and had most of our bills paid off, but babies are Expensive! And working with a farmer's salary (I'll get into my rant on this some other post!) we weren't going to have much to play with. The biggest cost on this calculator that I zoned into immediately: Diapers! And as I continued to research the same numbers kept appearing. The average cost to diaper your child to potty training (2 years) is around $1800!!! What!?! I am going to spend $75 a month for something that my child is going to use as a toilet? I haven't even spent $75 on myself in a month for a long time!
Now the cost of cloth diapering can vary widely depending on what system or combinations of styles you use. The cheapest system, prefolds and covers for birth to potty training, runs in the $250 range. Where as a big enough stash of one size all in ones will run you around $600. That's a $1200 savings!
2.Impact
In this day and age we really can't afford to not think about our planet. And there are always daily reminders of ways to be greener. Cloth diapering became the ultimate easy green thing for me to do. And I got a big push to do it for this reason when I learned that the average diaper takes 500 Years to decompose!! I was shocked to learn this! That means that the decision to use disposables will affect at least 5 generations! I can only hope our planet is in good enough shape for my great great great Grandchildren and I will do anything to help that. Plus diapers are the #3 biggest contribution to landfills! Yuck!
3.Materials
We used disposable diapers for about 2 weeks, during the time while we waited for our son's cord to fall off and completely heal. I came to completely hate disposables during this time! Not only did they seem to leak all the time (I think we had more leaks with them then we ever have had with cloth, and that's 6 months worth of use!) but they also smelled horrible! I honestly thought they smelled like petroleum. Makes sense considering that super absorbent "goo" in disposable is just a whole jumble of chemicals! Including Dioxin, which in some forms has been linked to health problems including cancer. Dioxin is the by-product of bleaching the paper in diapers, so they can be that pretty white. No Thank You! I would much rather have fluffy soft fabric next to my little ones sweet bottom!
4.Bonuses
I could probably go on for quite a while about all the benefits I have discovered in my cloth diapering journey, but here are just a couple more. No diaper rash, seriously none! I have yet to need to treat any sort of break out to my little one's bum. And talking to others who cloth diaper, they say the same thing! With disposables I have heard horror stories of having to slather on creams and try everything under the sun to clear up painful bleeding rashes. They are super cute and fun! There are so many color and print options out there, they truly make diaper changes fun! I will be able to use my cloth diapers for more then one child which increases my savings even more! And cloth diapered babies are known to potty train earlier!
Cloth diapers can work for any budget or lifestyle. If anything at least consider making the switch to CLOTH!

New Focus
I will keep this short and sweet. Mostly because today has been one of those long days.
I feel that every Mom needs an outlet. Something to do that is only for her, for me I hope this blog can be that! Originally I had planned to focus mostly on dairy farming, but now that I am a Mommy there are so many areas of my life I am passionate about. I have always loved to write, sometimes it's the only way I can clear my head. Hopefully here I can reawaken that love and maybe interest a few other people at the same time.
So here goes..........Hope you join me!

Ahh Perfect!
Ok in all reality no day, especially in a mother's life, is perfect. But today for me was pretty darn close. My little man is almost 6 months old and I am at that stage of parenthood in enjoying all the firsts with my firstborn. Today was the pumkin patch! While he's not big enough to pick out his own pumkin, I certainly was thrilled with introducing him to the concept. It brings a new awareness of life to think of things through our childs eyes, espeically at the first time for something. Add on top of that experience the fact that today was a gorgous fall day in Oregon. I don't mind fall, a few days of rain and then a break to recharge. Sometimes Oregon forgets to give us that break. But today more then made up for that sometimes forgetfulness, sunny and 78 is pretty much perfect weather in my book! My son also had his 6 month well baby check up today. (Yes as a dairy farmer you often group your outings all into one day! Getting away one day can be hard enough!) We have a completely healthy son, and I definitely don't take that for granted.
Such a great day makes me feel so blessed!
